American Association of Immunologists (02/09/26) Delery, Elizabeth
A professor's early struggles with immunology inspired her to begin using an online active-learning platform that teaches complex subjects through drawing and quizzing as a pre-lecture tool in her master's-level immunology course. By assigning short drawing-based videos and unlimited-attempt quizzes before class, Elizabeth Delery, PhD, Assistant Clinical Adjunct Professor, Indiana University School of Medicine, created a low-pressure system that let students actively engage with material while giving her insight into who needed help before exams. Students reported that the Draw It To Know It (DITKI) program's visual, step-by-step format made difficult topics far more understandable and improved their performance, with most saying they learned immunology better because of DITKI. Because the platform spans introductory through advanced content and can be customized to match a course syllabus, Delery sees it as a strong fit not only for her master's-level course but also for undergraduate and medical education.
