The American Medical Association (AMA) has launched a comprehensive nutrition education initiative designed to equip physicians, residents and medical students with practical, evidence-based tools to help patients make healthier dietary choices, emphasizing the role of nutrition in preventing and managing chronic disease. The initiative includes a new webinar series, Healthy Diet and Dietary Patterns, featuring discussions with leading nutrition researchers and public health experts on topics such as the updated Dietary Guidelines for Americans, highly processed foods, protein sources, and diet-related disease prevention. The program also incorporates roundtables and curated educational resources on the AMA Ed Hub, reflecting the AMA's longstanding policy efforts to reduce added sodium, limit sugar-sweetened beverages, and increase awareness of the health risks associated with highly processed foods. AMA President Bobby Mukkamala, MD, emphasized that “food is medicine,” underscoring the organization's commitment to integrating nutrition into routine clinical care and supporting physicians in guiding patients toward healthier long-term outcomes.
