What Primary Care Physicians Expect From Continuing Medical Education in Wound Management — A Survey Study

A survey of 27 general practitioners in Helsinki found that while most had received wound-care education during medical school, many still wanted further training. In particular, they wanted more instruction about wound diagnostics and etiological testing, where they both felt most competent and most in need of additional instruction. Peer-led lectures were cited as the preferred teaching format, followed by sessions from wound care nurses, educational videos, and specialist-led lectures, with smaller proportions favoring interactive product sessions or digital self-study. Because preferences varied, the researchers recommend a half-day continuing education program combining peer- and nurse-led lectures with interactive, hands-on components and video support. Future research, they suggest, should evaluate the effect of this training on learning and wound-care quality.
