An evaluation of U.S.-based gynecologic oncology continuing medical education (CME) activities examined whether incorporating patient narratives affected healthcare professionals' intentions to change practice. Drawing on post-activity evaluations from more than 31,000 learners and 171 patient narratives from the Smart Patients community, the retrospective mixed-methods analysis found that the proportion of clinicians intending to implement practice changes remained relatively stable (44% to 49%) over time. However, the nature of those intended changes evolved, shifting from a primary focus on guideline implementation in 2021 to greater emphasis on educating colleagues in 2022 and contributing to team-based improvements in 2023. These changes mirrored themes emerging from the patient narratives, suggesting that integrating patient experiences into CME may help align clinician priorities with patient-centered concerns, particularly in communication, health equity, and survivorship care.
