A Decade of Physician Learning and Assessment: The ACCME and ABIM Collaboration

The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education and the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) initiated a pivotal partnership a decade ago to help physicians integrate lifelong learning into their professional certification. The collaboration enabled continuing medical education (CME) activities to simultaneously fulfill requirements for ABIM's Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Today, thousands of CME activities automatically count toward MOC points, eliminating the need for manual certificate submissions. The volume of CME activities qualifying for MOC credit has expanded substantially over the years, reflecting the success and growth of this initiative.
